Hi and welcome aboard on your voyage with Boston Uncorked.  I love to travel and I’m intrigued by adventure.  One of my favorite aspects of learning about wine is discovering that it can take you on new journeys to enlightening places.

My deep interest in wine began many years ago on a trip to California.  (Clearly it had not begun with that low budget boxed wine with spout from college days.)  Rather, my journey was unveiled on a pseudo “Sideways” excursion.  I managed to escape a lengthy preparation of a parochial and literally dry wedding in LA with a partner in crime by b-lining it North to wine country, yes straight-up that well known winding coastal route.  Post jaunting about several vineyards a much loved wine was uncorked at a quaint restaurant in Los Gatos while dining with a motley group of friends from the Northeast.  The room grew with the roar of laughter and enchanting conversation.  After many novice attempts at various white (and I must admit a few pink) wines a Reserve Sterling Chardonnay made its way to the table.  Alas, the vineyard perched high on a hill that we had not found time to fit into the itinerary.  Its rich creamy texture with hints of vanilla won me over encouraging me to continue to endeavor toward bolder whites and eventually cross over into the bounty of red territory.

Thus far, I equated white wine to be more sociable and refreshing reserving red to dinner only. I tended to shy away from red perceiving it too dry and heavy.  Yet, it was a new varietal and not a particular vineyard that took me on the boldest adventure of all when by chance I was introduced to Zinfandel; big bold and really red Zin.  I yearned to learn more of the jammy plum and cherry richness of Zinfandel; sometimes with a spicy kick and others times subtle fruit forward elegance.  Hence, I added wine tastings to my list of new undertakings.  No longer timid after discerning it was the tannins in reds that kept me at bay I set my course towards encountering Pinots, Syrah, Shiraz and Riojas.

My passport has now passionately expanded via many delectable expeditions and courtships with diverse wines from across the globe.  I hope you’re as excited about our new venture as we are.  Come join us and Get Uncorked! Feel free to write me here.
